Pakistani Textile Exports Up 23 Percent, July 2010 – January 2011

Pakistan’s textile exports increased a record 23 percent in the second half of 2010, jumping from $10.8 billion from July through January 2009 to more than $13.2 billion during the same period last year. The performance in Jan. 2011 shows an even greater increase, surging more than 38 percent over Jan. 2010’s figures to reach $2.3 billion for the month.

Cotton-based apparel was among the 10 highest-export-value products during the July-January period with more than $1.3 billion of goods shipped.

While import numbers also rose, the increase was noticeably smaller at 16.7 percent. Raw materials, as might be expected given the gains in textile production, reached $22.6 billion during the second half of 2010, compared with $19.3 billion from the same period in 2009.
