PCCA Subsidiary Named Finalist for 2010 ACE Award

Denimatrix – a subsidiary of Plains Cotton Cooperative (PCCA) in Lubbock, TX – is among 12 American companies working overseas that have been chosen for the U.S. Secretary of State’s prestigious 2010 Award for Corporate Excellence (ACE).

As a finalist for the ACE award, Denimatrix joins such major global powerhouses as Cisco, Coca Cola, GE, Intel, PepsiCo and Qualcomm. These companies were chosen by the Inter-agency Principals’ Award Selection Committee from a record number of 78 nominations submitted by U.S. ambassadors around the world.

The U.S. Department of State instituted the award in 1999 to recognize the vital role that U.S. businesses play abroad as good corporate citizens and as innovators. The 2010 ACE winners will be announced by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at an annual ceremony to be held at the State Department later this fall, a Department spokesman said.

Part of the Textile and Apparel Division of PCCA, a farmer-owned cooperative, Denimatrix was formed in 2009. By adding the full-package jeans factory to its Textile Division, PCCA created the first fully-integrated vertical supply chain from raw cotton to finished jeans in the Western Hemisphere. This vertical model enhances flexibility and speed-to-market, ensures quality control from the cotton fields to the final garment.

Denimatrix was chosen for its environmental stewardship in reducing the environmental impact stemming from its production process, for contributing to the development of the local economy, and for reaching out to the community to help disadvantaged youth and the homeless in Guatemala City.

“We take corporate responsibility very seriously,” said Denimatrix President Carlos Arias. “For our employees, we provide medical care, literacy classes and other educational opportunities, and access to services that are hard to find in their communities,” he explained.

“When Carlos Arias worked with us to form Denimatrix, it was clear that environmental sustainability and corporate responsibility were core values for his management team and employees. We are very pleased and proud that they have been honored by the State Department,” said Wally Darneille, PCCA’s President and CEO.
