Summer School for Cotton Gets Underway

As summer settles in, aspirational cotton professionals from around the globe will be making their way to the Cotton Belt to attend cotton-focused classes at one of the two premier institutes our industry has to offer.

In June, on campus at the University of Memphis, students and faculty will meet to convene the American Cotton Shippers Association International Cotton Institute. Students there will embark on a six-week residential program designed to educate them on all aspects of the cotton industry, from field to retail shelf.

Areas of focus will include manual classing and use of HVI data, though Institute leaders say they are renewing a focus on more domestic, upstream stops in the cotton supply chain.

In early August, the Lubbock Cotton Exchange, in conjunction with the Fiber and Biopolymer Research Institute and Texas Tech University will host the 38th session of the Texas International Cotton School. There, students will enjoy a curriculum that provides an in-depth understanding of the Texas cotton industry and how it fits into a global marketplace.

The intensive two-week educational course provides insight on cotton and textiles and offers experience and a look into developments affecting an international market.
