Uzbekistan Announces Cotton Expectations for 2013

Uzbekistan plans to produce about 1 million tonnes of cotton fiber in 2013, according to a source at national ginnery unifier, Uzpakhtasanoat.

The report indicates that the president of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, signed a resolution approving the volume of raw cotton production for 2013. In line with this approval, Uzbekistan plans to harvest 3.35 million tonnes of raw cotton in the coming growing season.

Year over year, Uzbekistan decreased cotton-fiber production by 0.6% to 1.095 million tonnes. The country harvested 3.35 million tonnes of cotton in 2012, which is 4.5% less than it was in 2011.

Uzbekistan annually produces about 3.5 million tonnes of raw cotton and 1-1.2 million tonnes of cotton-fiber, 60% of which is exported.
