China Cotton Imports Rise Sharply

According to the statistics of General Administration of Customs, China imported 324,000 tons raw cotton in March 2010, up by 46.5 percent from February, and up by 230 percent year-on-year.

In the first three months of 2010, China imported 846,000 tons of cotton, up 210 percent compared with last year.

According to China Customs, in March, textile and garment exports were valued at $11 billion (U.S.), down by 12.9 percent from last month and down 9.5 percent from the same period last year.

Exports of textiles and garments stood at $39.245 billion (U.S.) in the first three months of 2010, up by 15.2 percent over the same period last year.
