Crop Progress: Boll Set Wraps Up, Focus Shifts to Open Bolls

If there’s a cotton boll yet to be set in the U.S. this season, USDA might like to know where it is.

According to USDA’s Crop Progress report for the week ending Sept. 4, boll set is reported in 97% of the U.S. crop – just slightly above the 5-year average for the date. In all, 13 states report boll set percentages above their respective averages.
