Crop Progress: Slow and Easy for Early Planted Cotton

Cotton planting for the 2022 season gained 3 percentage points in the past week, based on numbers from the USDA Crop Progress report for the week ending Apr. 17.

The report shows that 10% of the U.S. crop has been planted – up from 7% a week ago. That pushes progress one percentage point above the 5-year average for the date.

Arizona (up 11 percentage points), California (up 20 percentage points), and Texas (up 4 percentage points) continue to lead the early planting period. Louisiana gained two points, as Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi, and Virginia joined the action last week.
