Pakistan’s Cotton Production Rises as its Economy Expands

According to new statistics released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, cotton production in Pakistan is expected to rise to 10.55 million bales in the 12 months that begin on August 1, up from an estimated 9.92 million bales produced in the previous year.

This news follows another report from Bloomberg.com that Pakistan’s economy may expand by up to 4.5 percent in the next fiscal year, fueled in part by strong cotton and wheat sectors and increasing manufacturing output. The report cites statistics from the Planning Commission in Islamabad that are “being used by the government to frame its annual budget, due to be unveiled in Parliament on June 5,” according to Bloomberg.com.
