USDA to Update Texas Cotton Acres Info

Following the release of the June 30 Acreage report, USDA issued a release stating that the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will collect updated information in July on 2015 acres planted to cotton in Texas.

The June report estimated U.S. 2015 cotton plantings at 9.0 million acres, down 18.5 percent from 2014. The projection is down 551,000 acres from USDA’s initial 2015 estimate released in March. The numbers for Texas showed a 16.1 percent decline to 5.2 million acres.

At the time that NASS was collecting data for the latest report, weather delays left a portion of cotton acres yet to be planted in Texas. If the newly collected data justify any changes, NASS will publish updated estimates in the Crop Production report set for release on August 12.
