NC State: Managing Plant Bugs in Cotton Presquare

The N.C. State Extension cotton team is reporting that an initial flush of plant bugs coming from weeds is now moving into young cotton before squaring, causing a symptom known as “black flag” due to death of the expanding terminal leaves.

Dominic Reisig, N.C. State Extension entomologist, has developed management guidelines to help growers deal with this unique situation.
