According to information released by Syngenta, the PLINAZOLIN technology provides a novel Mode of Action (IRAC Group 30) for insect control to help deliver a new standard of performance, particularly against pests showing resistance or tolerance to existing products.

It was developed to provide an effective solution for resistance management strategies and replaces older, less effective chemistries. The sunlight stability and rain-resistant properties of the technology also allows for longer spray intervals and fewer applications to help improve crop productivity and quality.

PLINAZOLIN has demonstrated effective insect control on stinkbugs, mites, thrips, caterpillars, flies, and beetles. It will be commercialized for use in more than 40 countries on a variety of crops including soybeans, corn, rice, coffee, and a wide range of fruits and vegetables – in addition to cotton. The technology also has potential uses in forestry and professional pest management programs, and as a seed treatment application.

Syngenta announced that the PLINAZOLIN technology will initially be launched in Argentina under the brand name VIRANTRA. Additional registrations will follow over the next two to five years.

“The launch of this new technology is a result of our ongoing commitment to investing in the long-term development of innovative and effective solutions that increase crop productivity in an environmentally sustainable and responsible way,” said Jon Parr, President, Global Crop Protection at Syngenta. “It’s exciting that growers in Argentina will be the first to benefit.

“Pests and diseases are a continually evolving threat, and the changing environment makes it even harder for farmers to grow their crops,” added Parr. “Delivering farmers state-of-the-art and efficacious solutions to safeguard their crops is precisely what Syngenta Crop Protection is all about.”
