“For the first time in our history, you can be here without being here,” said Jay Mahaffey, Manager of the Bayer Scott Learning Center. “This tour showcases the extensive work that goes into product development like the cotton trait ThryvOn Technology, giving even more growers an unprecedented look into the extensive research underway at the Learning Center.”

ThryvOn Technology will represent the industry’s first cotton biotech trait to help provide growers protection against tarnished plant bugs and thrips species that previously were unable to be managed through a biotech trait. In a recent survey of more than 200 growers, more than half indicated the presence of tarnished plant bugs, and nearly 4 in 5 growers indicated the presence of thrips species – consistently among some of the most economically detrimental pests in U.S. cotton farming.

Pending regulatory approval, ThryvOn Technology is expected to be available to cotton growers early this decade stacked with Bollgard 3 XtendFlex Technology in multiple cottonseed brands that growers have come to trust.

This year’s 40-plus acres of test protocols are providing extensive data on how the ThryvOn Technology will perform in real-world circumstances. Expected benefits include:

  • Season-long protection against feeding damage from tarnished plant bugs and thrips species through built-in trait technology
  • A potential reduction in the number of foliar insecticide applications needed for control of tarnished plant bugs and thrips species

Visitors to the Bayer Scott Learning Center’s virtual tour will follow Mahaffey and others to:

  • Visit test plots of the ThryvOn Technology
  • Hear from researchers working on the technology
  • See thrips species damage and sample collections
  • Receive a complimentary 100% cotton ThryvOn Technology T-shirt

The virtual tour will follow the technology and research throughout the process and will be updated regularly. Featured on the site now is an overview of the Bayer Scott Learning Center and a closer look at thrips species. Next, the site will feature plant bug research, crop performance updates and variety performance. The virtual tour will wrap up with a results overview in early 2021.

Virtual tour materials will continue to be updated as the season progresses.
