John Deere Agri-Services had made a big push into the remote imagery market through 2007 and early 2008 under the OptiGro brand, investing tremendous dollars in talent and resources. When it was clear that the investment was not going to deliver the necessary payback , however, the plug was abruptly pulled. The imagery business was sold back to the original owners, and is packaged under the brand CropAssure.
