Cotoran, Direx 4L Added to Roundup Ready PLUS Program

MANA Crop Protection announces that three herbicides in their cotton portfolio – Cotoran, Cotton Pro and Direx 4L, will be included for grower incentives under the 2012 Roundup Ready PLUS Weed Management Solutions program.

Cotton growers across the Delta and Southeast who use one or more of these MANA Crop Protection residual herbicides will receive a $12 per gallon incentive when used according to Roundup Ready PLUS guidelines.

Therefore, with a savings of $3 per acre per application, cotton growers who use Cotoran, Cotton Pro and or Direx 4L this season can expect to gain even more of a return on their herbicide investment from this decision.

Used alone or in combination with other herbicides for season-long weed control, these products are recommended under the Roundup Ready PLUS program to combat Palmer amaranth (pigweed) and other weed species known for resistance issues specific to glyphosate.

Dave Downing, Herbicide Product Leader, with MANA Crop Protection, says the inclusion of these three popular residual herbicides provide cotton growers with more options in proven formulations under the program.

Has the Cure for Low Cotton Prices Set In?

“Over the past two years, we’ve witnessed increased demand for pre-emergence residual herbicides. Not just to prevent early weed competition, but to address weeds showing signs or confirmed for glyphosate resistance,” says Downing. “Where herbicide resistance is on high alert, experienced go-to residual standards like Cotoran, Cotton Pro and Direx 4L have significant value for managing resistance challenges on cotton. These products set the bar for performance and reliability which is why growers remain committed to using them . . . and why Monsanto has endorsed them for their program.”

University researcher recommendations across the Cotton Belt encourage grower adoption in using multiple modes of action throughout the growing season in order to successfully manage glyphosate resistance issues on cotton acres.

Downing agrees. “Glyphosate resistance threatens millions of acres and puts millions of dollars at risk in lost yields each year,” he says. “Following the recommended use rates and timing with these products under the Roundup Ready PLUS agenda for glyphosate resistance management will provide the diversity in modes of action needed to greatly improve performance.”
