Proper Use of Correct Herbicides in Xtend Crop System

Labels for the new herbicides for use on the Xtend and Enlist crop systems have arrived.

The XtendiMax with Vapor Grip technology label was granted in late November for use on Xtend cotton and soybeans. The label for Engenia for use on the same crops came in early January. And EPA approval for use of Enlist Duo on Enlist crops was granted on January 13.

Larry Steckel, University of Tennessee Extension weed specialist, is ready to help growers understand and use these products properly and carefully.

“I will be writing a series of blogs on stewardship of these herbicides, focusing mainly on Xtend crops, as Enlist will be planted on few acres in Tennessee in 2017,” said Steckel in a UTCrops news blog. “We also put together a 30-minute training module on stewardship of these herbicides as part of the pesticide re-certification that many applicators will take this year. Also, stewardship of these herbicides will be discussed in full at all the county producer meetings put on by UT Extension.”

More details about the newly-approved products, their cost and tankmix options can be found in Steckel’s online post.
