Port Problems Choking U.S. Cotton Exports

Congestion and labor issues at major West Coast ports are threatening the timely delivery of U.S. cotton to China ahead of a key deadline for imports to arrive.

According to a recent article published in The Maritime Executive, those delays – up to as much as a week – come at a critical time for the U.S. cotton industry. Bales promised for delivery must land in China by the end of December to qualify for buyers’ 2014 import quota allotments.
