Smith Elected 2010 NCC Chairman

Eddie Smith, a Floydada, TX, cotton producer, was elected chairman of the National Cotton Council (NCC) for 2010 at the conclusion of the Council’s Annual Meeting on February 8, in Memphis. Smith served as the vice chairman in 2009 and succeeds Jay Hardwick, a Newellton, LA, producer.

“Eddie has a long record of outstanding service to the National Cotton Council and the cotton industry,” said Hardwick. “We are extremely fortunate that Eddie has agreed to answer the industry’s call to serve as Council Chairman for 2010, bringing proven leadership and expertise. We know his tenure will be successful and we wish him the very best.”

Elected vice chairman for 2010 was Charles Parker, a Senath, MO, producer.

Smith graduated from Texas Tech in 1973 with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics, then began farming full-time. Today, he grows cotton and grains and raises cattle alongside his father and two sons.

He has served on many NCC committees, including its Environmental Task Force, and also completed the Council’s Cotton Leadership Program in 1991.

He has served as a director of Floydada Cooperative Gin. Smith was elected to the board of directors of Plains Cotton Cooperative Association (PCCA) in 1984, and elected chairman in 2004.
Smith is a past chairman and director of Cotton Incorporated, and has served as treasurer, secretary and vice chairman.

He was a member of the Blue Ribbon Farm Bill Committee of the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives and served as vice chairman of its Trade Working Group.

Smith is currently a director of the Texas Agricultural Cooperative Council.
