Legacy Product Profile: AMVAC

AMVAC’s two most popular products for cotton insect control are the organophosphate Orthene 97 and pyrethroid Bifenthrin.

Orthene has the active ingredient acephate. AMVAC now owns the brand name Orthene and has technical registration and support to back it up.

“Orthene has been around for a number of years, but we feel that we have the most research and have done the most for the cotton community with it,” says Billy Hines, AMVAC Southern Region Manager.

Orthene is effective on plant bugs and stink bugs and is a recommended rational chemistries for tackling insect resistance. It provides residual systemic activity of 10 to 15 days at recommended rates.

Bifenthrin, a 4th generation pyrethroid, is the broadest-spectrum pyrethroid for use in cotton. Bifenthrin is effective on aphids, plant bugs and heliothians, including eggs and larvae.
