Brazil Cotton Production and Exports Below Forecast Targets

According to the USDA Bureau in Brazil, low prices and larger-than-anticipated production cuts will leave the country’s cotton export numbers at roughly 2.2 million bales – well below the forecast of 3.7 million bales.

The information, recently published in Agrimoney.com, also shows that overall production is expected to drop 12 percent to 6.9 million bales, as growers cut the country’s cotton-growing area to only one million acres.

The article notes that the lower export number would appear to damage Brazil’s status as the world’s third largest cotton shipper.
