EPA Extends Comment Period on Dicamba Use with New Traits

In response to requests, the EPA has added another 30 days to the public comment period on the proposed regulatory decision to register dicamba products for weed control in cotton and soybeans that have been genetically engineered to tolerate the product.

Public comments on the Agency’s proposed regulatory decision must be submitted no later than May 31, 2016. Comments may be submitted online to the EPA docket EPA-HQ-OPP-2016-0187.

These new cotton and soybean plants are the first developed to be resistant to dicamba, providing growers with an additional herbicide mode of action to control weeds that have developed resistance to glyphosate and other herbicides.

After the comment period closes, EPA will review all of the comments and reach a final decision, which the Agency expects to issue in late summer or early fall 2016.
