Mississippi Cotton Grower Wins Deltapine ‘Grand Slam Getaway’

Monsanto is pleased to announce that cotton farmer Paul Tedford of Lyon, MS has won a trip for two to the Deltapine Grand Slam Getaway in St. Louis, MO. The getaway centers around all-star performers in both agriculture and baseball. Tedford’s name was selected from a random drawing of the farmers who registered for the getaway by registering through the Cotton Community.

The three-day, two-night package provides Tedford and his guest the opportunity to tour Monsanto’s Chesterfield Village Research Facility where they will learn about exciting new technologies being developed to help double cotton yields and improve farmers’ lives and profitability. The next day they will enjoy the sights and sounds of St. Louis and take in the 2009 baseball All-Star game at Busch Stadium with Monsanto representatives. Air and ground transportation, lodging and game tickets are among the awards included for the July All-Star game in St. Louis.

Tedford is one of the many all star cotton farmers who have logged into CottonCommunity.com since the site was introduced in January. The Cotton Community is a social networking site where cotton farmers can track variety performance, connect with fellow farmers, learn about new products and share information in an easy-to-use format. The online community is one effort to improve agricultural production by facilitating information exchange between farmers and it also provides a platform for the company to share information.

“Monsanto is committed to helping farmers be successful by arming them with new products and technologies that lead to better production, as well as providing a look at the future through the research and development pipeline,” said Brian Effer, Deltapine brand communications manager at Monsanto. “Farmers put in long hours to grow the fiber and food that we all count on. With all that hard work and sacrifice, we are sure Paul looks forward to the seventh inning stretch and a break. We hope this special event provides that well-deserved break.”
