New Webcast Focuses on Key Factors Impacting Leaf Grade Values

Poor fiber quality and leaf contamination can significantly reduce cotton price and marketability and has become more important as cotton exports have increased over the past decade.

A new webcast – titled Impact of Leaf Pubescence on Fiber Quality – has been added to the Focus on Cotton online series to help cotton growers, consultants, and other industry experts identify factors contributing to higher cotton leaf grade values.

The 22-minute talk by Gaylon D. Morgan, professor and State Extension cotton agronomist at Texas A&M University, provides information to help users understand how genetics and environment impact plant traits, identify practices that significantly influence leaf grade values, and schedule harvests during optimal conditions.

The Focus on Cotton series is made available by the Plant Management Network and Cotton Incorporated, and contains more than 40 webcasts on various aspects of cotton crop management, including agronomic practices, crop protection and ag engineering. The presentations are accessible online at any time.

The resource also features a newly improved Cotton Extension Search tool, where users can conveniently search for extension resources across all U.S. land-grant universities serving cotton producers.
