Crop Progress: Cotton Planting and Condition Remain Strong

The USDA Crop Progress report for the week ending June 4 shows that 71% of the U.S. cotton crop for 2023 has now been planted. That’s up 11 percentage points in the past week, but still 4 points shy of the 5-year average for the date.

Strong progress was made in each state, with nine states now at or above their respective average for the date.

USDA also noted that squaring is now reported in 6% of the crop – up 3 points in the past week – with activity coming from 12 states.

Overall crop condition continues to improve, with 51% of the crop rated good/excellent, 37% fair, and only 11% poor/very poor.
