Crop Progress: Harvest Remains Well Ahead of Schedule

According to USDA’s Crop Progress report for the week ending Oct. 23, 45% of the U.S. cotton crop has now been harvested – up 8 percentage points in the past seven days and 6 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average for this date.

On a state-by-state basis, it’s more impressive. All 15 cotton-producing states are now at or well ahead of their respective harvest averages, with most state percentage increases over the past week ranging from 10-25 percentage points. The crop is coming out of the field quickly.

Boll set across the U.S. is now rated at 92% – up 3 points in the past week, with 14 cotton-producing states are at or above their respective averages.

Crop condition numbers shift slightly this week: 30% good/excellent, 25% fair, and 45% poor/very poor.
