Crop Progress: Near the End of the Tunnel for Cotton Harvest

The USDA Crop Progress report for the week ending Nov. 20 shows that 79% of the U.S. cotton crop has now been harvested. That’s up 8 percentage points in the past week, as well as 8 points ahead of the 5-year average for this week.

Averaging state totals on a regional basis shows that roughly 83% of the Southeast crop, 97% of the Mid-South crop, 77% of the Southwest crop, and 74% of the Western crop are heading for the gin yard. In all, 14 of the 15 cotton producing states are ahead of or on their respective 5-year averages.
