Drought May Effect Yields in India

Cotton growers of Gujarat are praying for another spell of good rains over the next 10 days or else they fear cotton yield could be affected.

Deficient rains in the next fortnight could offset the projected gains of 4-6 percent in cotton yield from Gujarat, industry experts said.

“Present condition of the crop is good, but more rains are now required. If it rains within a week or 10 days, then its very good, otherwise the yield will get impacted,” vice chancellor Junagadh Agriculture University Dr N C Patel said.

“Cotton acreage in kharif has touched 25.51 lakh hectares mark in Gujarat. With 90 percent of sowing in the state getting over and virtually no rainfall in the last fortnight, the projected gain in yield this year could be offset if it does not rain,” a Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) official said.

I feel that the changing scenario in rainfall and weather pattern from later half of August after the earth-moon-venus appearance on same line in early August was noted, the yields will be nearly as high as last year and will be the top ranker state in India.

The sowing is 25.51 lakh hectares mark in Gujarat its ok ,But 10 lacs Hectares aria are “non irrigated“ out of 25.51.And now cotton flower size is ONLY 6 to 9 inch in 65% sowing aria.So I think in this year total production of GUJRAT is only 80-85 lacs Bales.and if we cant get “heavy rain“ whith in 10 -15 days then i think GUJRAT produces only 70-75 lacs bales.
