India’s Cotton Exports Expected to Rebound in 2009/10

India’s cotton exports are likely to rebound in 2009-10 with 1.4 million tons of the fiber projected to be sold in the overseas market, an international cotton body said.

“Indian exports (cotton) are expected to rebound strongly in 2009-10 to 1.4 million tons,” the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) said in a statement.

The fiber export from India, the world’s second largest cotton producer, dipped substantially last year as Indian prices remained uncompetitive amid global economic slowdown that hit demand badly, according to industry experts.

The shipments are estimated to be below one million tons in 2008-09, they said.

According to ICAC, the global cotton demand is expected to recover slightly this year depending on an improvement in the world economic growth. The demand is forecast to recover marginally to 23.5 million tons in 2009-10.

“India’s cotton exports are likely to rebound “I think its not possible,Because coming cotton year, Indian Cotton output is Down.Figure shows now higher side, but its not comes true, now size of COTTON FLOWER is only not more then 9 inch.and after two month its become only 2-3 feet so as GUJRAT farmer cant get more ild,do he distroid tree.and sewing ONION,GROUNDNUT in this coming year.so the production is less, then Indian mill also parches so export become less.its my opinion,

Yes, India’s cotton export may rise little beet in 09-10 crop year compare to 08-09 but it will not be as much as projected by world. In 09-10 domestic production will also rise and so as local consuption. But for the 09-10 export time, price and demand fron western world will the main factor. Since collepse of commodity markets in 2nd half of 2008, China is playing very safest trade game after analysing world scenario. So there will not be any sudden buying will be seen from china, secondly US doller weakening will support US export. Pakistan is also heading for good crop in new year. I think India has to work hard to achieve record breaking export of cotton which was in a 07-08 season year 85 lac bales. This year 08-09 trade estimates 35 to 40 lac bales. As per textile commissionars office India’s total cotton export registration (From Aug-08 to July-09) is 32.53 lac bales (5.53 lac tonnes), where the actual shipment during the same periods is 27.22 lac bales (4.63lac tonnes)only. In india we hope after very drastic setback in 08-09 next season 09-10 may prove some positive sign to all stack holder of cotton. India is having a season year from October to September.

AS ON TODAY IN COTTON GROWING AREA THERE IS NEED OF 2nd/3rd RAIN FALL.AND IN AREA LIKE ORISSA, CROP IS HIT BECAUSE OF NO RAIN. ARRIVAL OF THE COTTON WILL BE DELAYED BECAUSE OF THIS.TO MY OPINION THERE WILL HIGH COTTON PRICE DURING 2009-10. EXPORT OF COTTON IN BIG QUANTITY IS A QUESTION MARK.
