USDA Exploring New Options for Pink Bollworm Control
October 6, 2015 Pink bollworm control programs have practically eliminated the pest from cotton fields in parts of the lower Southwest and Far West. However, there can still be infestation flare-ups. USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is taking to the air to control those hot spots.
A new USDA video describes the problem and shows how APHIS is using remotely-piloted aircraft to release sterile moths help eliminate small-scale outbreaks as soon as they are detected.
