Pink bollworm control programs have practically eliminated the pest from cotton fields in parts of the lower Southwest and Far West. However, there can still be infestation flare-ups. USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is taking to the air to control those hot spots.
A new USDA video describes the problem and shows how APHIS is using remotely-piloted aircraft to release sterile moths help eliminate small-scale outbreaks as soon as they are detected.
