Egyptian delegation visits headquarters of Cotton International magazine
A delegation of cotton professionals recently made the 6,800-mile trip from Egypt to the United States to discuss the state of the global cotton industry and visit the headquarters of Meister Media Worldwide, publisher of Cotton International and Cotton Grower magazines.
Headed by Tharwat El Miniawy, Chairman of Egypt’s Cotton Arbitration and Testing General Organisation (CATGO), the delegation’s primary topic of discussion was CATGO’s 2010 annual report, “The Future of Cotton.” The 118-page report contains 15 incisive articles on all aspects of the cotton industry, including pieces on Egypt’s role on the world cotton stage; sustainability; demand creation; mechanical cultivation; the use of pesticides; and cotton identity theft.
Miniawy was accompanied by Masoud Eid Mohamed, Cotton International’s Alexandria, Egypt-based sales representative. Meister Media personnel in attendance included Gary F. Fitzgerald, the company’s CEO; Rick Melnick, corporate editorial director; and Charlotte Sine, Jess Ennis, Mike McCue, and Jan Rinaldi, Cotton International’s editor-at-large, publisher, editor, and sales support coordinator, respectively.
“Egypt has always had a prominent role in the cotton industry, and its extra long staple fiber is counted among the best in the world,” said Meister Media CEO Gary T. Fitzgerald. “But we are operating in a truly global market, so the challenges and opportunities facing Egypt are the same that face cotton professionals in all other parts of the world. It’s crucial that we all work together to ensure the continued success of the global cotton industry, and the exchange of ideas between CATGO and Cotton International, Cotton Grower and Meister Media was another step in that continuing process.”
