In Memoriam: Samuel G. Jackson

Samuel G. Jackson

Samuel G. Jackson, a pioneer in the field of cotton moisture control and founder of Samuel Jackson, Inc., passed away on November 17, 2010 in Lubbock, Texas at the age of 85. Known for his research and development of products to enhance cotton ginning through moisture control, Jackson invented the Humidaire, a moist-air generator that speeds ginning and improves the value of bales. Products resulting directly from or inspired by his designs are used all over the world, including at the largest and most efficient gins. These products have helped cotton growers increase crop value and have improved profitability for gins through greater efficiency. Before beginning his 60-year career in cotton, Sam served in the U.S. Army in Alaska and later graduated with a mechanical engineering degree from Texas Tech University, where he met his wife of 63 years, Geraldine “Gerry” Hope Jackson. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, a son, and six grandchildren.
