ITMF Annual Conference Brings The Textile Industry Together

This year the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) will hold its Annual Conference, the global summit of the whole textile industry, in the Indian Ocean on the island of Mauritius from October 11 to 14, 2008. Despite the island being known mostly as a holiday destination, Mauritius has also developed a very diverse and flexible textile and apparel industry. ITMF organizers hope the choice of location will help to underline the economic significane of this industry to the Mauritian economy and to shed light on Mauritius as an attractive international textile and apparel investment destination.

The general theme of the conference will be “Challenges for a Greener and More Sustainable Textile Industry.” In this new environment, the conference will provide the opportunity to analyze global developments in the textile and clothing industry in terms of investment, activity and trade. The presentations and discussions during the various sessions of the conference will enable the delegates to better understand the new era for a global textile and clothing sector at the crossroads. The Mauritius Export Association (MEXA) is the conference’s host association. The venue for this year’s ITMF Annual Conference is the Le Méridien Mauritius hotel, a luxurious resort located on the bay of Pointe-aux-Piments on the northwest coast of Mauritius.

ITMF Welcomes the China National Textile & Apparel Council (CNTAC) as a New Member

On April 17, 2008 the China National Textile & Apparel Council (CNTAC) joined the ITMF as a new member association. This presents an important step forward both for the Federation as well as for the Council.

The ITMF brings together representatives of the textile industry from developed and developing countries alike and as such it serves as a unique platform to exchange views and to learn from each other. The CNTAC, who represents the largest textile producing country in the world, will contribute to the discussions on the future of the global textile value chain. But China is not only the largest producer, exporter and importer of textiles and apparel, but also has an enormous domestic market which offers huge opportunities. In return, the Council will benefit from a truly global network and thereby enhance as well as further enrich its own knowledge base.

In today’s international trade environment, it becomes more and more important to have access not only to information, but also to an international network that enables the industry to better understand the changes and challenges of today and tomorrow. It has become essential to think ahead and to adapt quickly in order to strengthen one’s business and to make use of existing opportunities, despite uncertainties and volatile markets. For that purpose, the ITMF offers an ideal forum to all textile and related industries to meet and discuss the challenges and opportunities that are lying ahead.
