New Webcast Focuses on Nutrient Testing and Management Practices

Nutrient management, including the efficient application of inputs, is critically important for maintaining cotton quality and yield year after year.

A new webcast – titled “Utilizing Tissue and Petiole Sampling in Cotton Production” – has been added to the Focus on Cotton online series from the Plant Management Network and Cotton Incorporated.

This 35-minute talk by Hunter Frame, assistant professor and Field Crops agronomist at Virginia Tech Tidewater Agricultural Research and Extension Center, provides information to help cotton growers, consultants and other industry experts accurately monitor and maintain sufficient levels of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and sulfur.

During the presentation, Frame provides information to help viewers follow plant sampling methods to ensure quality results, track expected nutrient levels through different growth stages, predict yield mid-season and adjust nutrient management programs, and avoid over-applications of nutrients that don’t improve yield.

This webcast is part of the Focus on Cotton series made available by the Plant Management Network and Cotton Incorporated. The Focus on Cotton series contains more than 40 webcasts on various aspects of cotton crop management, including agronomic practices, crop protection and ag engineering. The presentations are accessible online at any time.
