Winner of “Oldest Rieter Spinning Machine” Competition Announced

Rieter Spinning Machine

After an exhaustive search around the globe, Rieter Machine Works has managed to find the winner of its “Oldest Rieter Spinning Machine in the Field” competition. The company has been in business for more than 300 years, so it took quite some time to sort through all of the “contestants.”

The winner turned out to be a 70-year-old bale breaker (an opener for cotton bales) owned by Flawa AG in Flawil, Switzerland. That should come as no surprise, because while Rieter’s products are bought all over the world, the company is headquartered in Winterhur, Switzerland–meaning the winning piece of machinery traveled less than 50 kilometers from its point of origin.”

The winner will receive a flight to the 2011 International Textile Machine Exhibition (ITMA) in Barcelona, including two overnight stays–a prize that was personally presented to Peter Brülisauer and Leo Moser by Peter Gnägi, CEO of Rieter Textile Systems. The second prize, a high-quality Swiss watch, was won by Rajapalayam Mills Ltd. from India, and the third prize–also a high-quality Swiss watch–went to Sudarsanam Spinning Mills Ltd., also from India.
