Crop Progress: Cotton Planting Tracking with 2022

The USDA Crop Progress report for the week ending Apr. 23 shows that 12% of the U.S. cotton crop has been planted – one percentage point above the 5-year average for this date. Coincidently (perhaps), that 12% mirrors the planting percentage from Apr. 23 of last year.

Hopefully the rest of the planting and growing season goes better than 2022.

The USDA report shows planting activity in five more states – California, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, and South Carolina – in the past week. Biggest jumps in planting come from California (up 20 percentage points), Arizona and Virginia (both up 12 points), and Texas (up 5 points).
