Crop Progress: More States Join 2022 Cotton Planting

Cotton planters started rolling in four more states in the past week, based on data from the USDA Crop Progress report for the week ending April 24.

Growers in Alabama, Kansas, North Carolina, and South Carolina have now joined the 2022 planting season. The USDA report shows that 12% of the U.S. cotton crop has now been planted – up two percentage points in the past week and one percentage point ahead of the 5-year average for this date. The vast majority of progress remains in Arizona (51%), California (85%), and the southern parts of Texas (19%).

Louisiana jumped 11 percentage points in the past week, up to 14% planted, while Virginia climbed 10 percentage points to 12% planted. All other reported states range from 1% to 3% planted.
