Soil Health, Cotton Sustainability Focus of Upcoming AR Field Days

Cotton growers in Arkansas and across the northern Mid-South will have two opportunities to learn more about soil health and cotton sustainability coming in May and June.

On May 25, the Arkansas Soil Health Alliance – in conjunction with the Arkansas Association of Conservation Districts, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service – will conduct a Soil Health Field Day and Training session on the Adam Chappell Farm Old Cotton Gin in Cotton Gin, AR. The program begins at 9:45 am CDT and goes until 2:30 pm, with lunch provided.

Attendees can receive 4 CEU credits for soil and water management.

Cotton Sustainability Field Day at the Judd Hill Foundation Farm

Various facets of sustainable cotton production will be the focus of the June 22 field day at the Judd Hill Foundation in Poinsett County, AR.

On-site registration at the Judd Hill Foundation Farm opens at 8:00 am CDT with field tours beginning at 9:00 am. The farm is located at 29020 Arkansas Highway 214, five miles south of Trumann, AR.

Following the field tours, information on documenting sustainability practices and their importance for marketing U.S. cotton will be presented by representatives of the Soil Health Institute, U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol, and Staplcotn, followed by lunch.

For interested growers, an enrollment session with the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol will be held at 1:00 pm.

The event is organized by the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture, USDA’s Agricultural Research Service, Arkansas State University College of Agriculture, Soil Health Institute, Cotton Incorporated, and the National Cotton Council.
