Biocontrol and the Future of Crop Protection

Biological crop protection is where things are headed – sooner in some markets than others, but potentially coming more quickly considering the current regulatory pressures on widely used herbicides and insecticides in cotton.

“Biocontrols are typically less costly to develop and much quicker to run the registration gauntlet than more traditional synthetic products,” says Richard Jones, Corporate Content Editor for Meister Media Worldwide (publisher of Cotton Grower and other agricultural industry publications). “Biological products are more targeted, have fewer negative impacts for human health and the environment, and fit pretty neatly in the sustainability initiatives and trends that are driving ag and food in 2022.”

Even with all these benefits, biocontrols remain a relatively small segment of crop protection, but one with miles of opportunity for growth. To explore those options and benefits, Meister’s new Global Insight Series Report, Biological Crop Protection, looks at attitudes and adoption of biocontrol at the farm level, how biologicals fit with the latest developments in ag technology, and some of the developments that are making these tools more attractive to growers, agriculture, and the entire food value chain.
