Deltapine NPE Program Kicks Off 16th Season

The Deltapine New Product Evaluator (NPE) Program kicks off its 16th season looking to continue its tradition of bringing grower-proven cotton varieties to market, with eight variety candidates being evaluated for the Class of ’24.

There are six Bollgard 3 ThryvOn Cotton with XtendFlex Technology variety candidates being evaluated by NPE growers Beltwide, and two Bollgard 3 XtendFlex cotton variety candidates being evaluated in the Southwest.

“The full approval of the ThryvOn Technology has allowed us to bring Bollgard 3 ThryvOn Cotton with XtendFlex Technology candidates for evaluation across a broad range of acres and growing conditions,” says Eric Best, Deltapine Cotton Product Manager. “We are also still advancing variety candidates in other trait packages to the NPE program to continue meeting regional needs.

“The eight variety candidates for the Deltapine Class of ’24 include a range of maturities and native trait offerings and demonstrated yield and fiber quality potential worthy of making it into the 2023 NPE Program evaluations,” he adds.

The two Bollgard 3 XtendFlex variety candidates being evaluated offer bacterial blight resistance and strong yield and fiber quality performance potential. As always, NPE growers will plant and evaluate the variety candidates in their own growing systems and conditions to help determine which have the performance to make it into the Deltapine Class of ’24 for commercial planting.

Since it began in 2008, the Deltapine NPE Program has set a standard for how cotton varieties should be brought to market based on grower-proven performance. Each season, more than 200 NPE growers representing all regions of the Belt plant and evaluate Deltapine pre-commercial variety candidates in large-acre plots and take them to harvest. The varieties launched each season by Deltapine are NPE proven.

“Deltapine NPE-proven cotton varieties have a track record of raising the bar in yield and fiber quality potential, as evidenced by recent classes featuring high-performance products such as DP 2239 B3XF and DP 2333 B3XF,” Best says. “This program will continue to bring improved genetics across multiple trait platforms with the native traits and agronomics growers need to be successful. The Deltapine NPE growers have been instrumental in driving the cotton industry forward.”

The Deltapine Class of ’24 cotton varieties will be announced in December. To learn more about the NPE program, visit Deltapine.com/NPE.
